Issue Position

I do not like marriage being a state-function. I believe the value of marriage should be left to private citizens and their respective religious institutions. However, marriage, as it is today is a state-function. And the state function of marriage is a certain manipulation of life and property rights. Since I believe in equal protection under the law for all citizens, I believe that marriage should be afforded to all citizens regardless of their lifestyle. I am opposed to the Defense of Marriage Amendment in Virginia's Constitution, which is the only part of Article I that denies legal equality to a minority.
