Statement

Date: Oct. 20, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense; and State and Foreign Operations, released the following statement on the death of Muammar Qadhafi:

The Libyan people, the United States, and NATO worked hard to get Muammar Qadhafi to step down from power after he began the slaughter of his own people. Qadhafi chose not to leave power, but instead threw his nation into violent chaos, which has led to his own death. It is now time for the world to help the Libyan people make a transition to a peaceful democracy that respects its own citizens and does not threaten its neighbors or anyone else.
