As Afghanistan War reaches its 10th Anniversary on Friday, Rep. Gary Peters Again Calls for Our Troops to Come Home

Statement

Date: Oct. 6, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Friday October 7th will mark the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Afghanistan, and this morning Rep. Gary Peters issued the following statement marking this milestone by again calling for an end to the war.

"For 10 long years, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and National Guard as well as their families have made tremendous sacrifices for America, but it is time for our troops to come home," said Rep. Gary Peters. "President Obama's bold decision to send the SEALS to kill Osama bin Laden has given America a long awaited victory in the war on terror, but we cannot afford more lives lost or more money spent on this conflict. Today I am again calling for the President to develop a plan in consultation with military leaders that will allow for combat troops to be safely withdrawn within one year. On this anniversary, I hope everyone will join me in thanking our servicemembers and their families for all that they have given during the last decade."
