A Message from the Governor in Honor of: Yom Kippur

Statement

Date: Oct. 7, 2011
Location: Austin, TX
Issues: Religion

This is the most solemn holy day on the Jewish calendar -- the Day of Atonement. It is a time for Jews everywhere to focus on their relationship with God, seeking his forgiveness through repentance.

As you fast and pray on this day, you are paying tribute to our Creator. Trust in God -- the essence of faith -- is truly a blessing. Faith provides us with strength in times of weakness. Faith gives us guidance when we have lost our way. Faith is a source of love, compassion and hope.

As the Holy Days come to an end, I hope you all experience a renewed sense of optimism and vigor in the New Year.

First Lady Anita Perry and I send best wishes to you and your families.
