U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16), a member of the House Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, today released the following statement on the death of Anwar al-Awlaki:
"The killing of terrorist leader Anwar al-Awlaki represents another significant victory in the war on terror. Al-Awlaki was recruiting American Muslims, like the Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hassan, and spreading hatred through his publication Inspire. He was trying to position himself of as a future leader of Al Qaeda, but thankfully, he will never get that chance.
"Since 9/11, our intelligence community has done a remarkable job of keeping America safe from terrorist threats. Just five months after the death of Osama bin Laden, the killing of al-Awlaki is another example of the important work our intelligence agencies and armed forces are doing behind the scenes every day."
