McNerney Amendment Protects Nearly Three Million American Workers

Press Release

Date: Sept. 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

This afternoon, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) introduced an amendment that will protect millions of green jobs to H.R. 2401, the TRAIN Act. The TRAIN Act requires scrutiny of how current and future federal regulations affect the American energy and manufacturing sectors and the global competitiveness of these industries. Rep. McNerney's amendment ensures that the effect on Americans working in the green energy industry will be taken into consideration.

"We can all agree that creating American jobs is of the utmost importance in today's economy. As a renewable energy engineer, I know firsthand that green jobs can help improve the economy here at home and help us remain competitive in the global markets. Our first priority is protecting American jobs, and that's exactly what my amendment does," said Congressman McNerney.

"Regardless of your views on clean energy or the EPA, we have a responsibility to the nearly three million people employed by the clean economy to take into consideration how they would be affected by federal regulations. It is not the industries that we need to be the most concerned about, but the men and women whose livelihoods are dependent on the clean energy sector.

McNerney's amendment is designed to ensure proper consideration is given to how decisions made in Washington, D.C., will affect Americans working in the clean energy sector.

"I am committed to keeping and generating good-paying jobs that highlight the ingenuity and promise of the citizens of this country. Policies that promote a clean, healthy environment and create new incentives for investments right here at home are something that we must remain dedicated to," said McNerney.
