Luján Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15.

"As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we reflect on the contributions the Hispanic community has made to our country. Hispanics have shared their vibrant culture, their values of family and faith, and their rich traditions and history.

"As the recent Census number show, the Hispanic community is an increasing part of the American community, whose contributions as teachers, first responders, and entrepreneurs add to the strength of our nation in all facets of American life, politically, economically, and culturally.

"With our nation facing such a challenging economic time, the hard-working spirit and determination of the Hispanic community will be integral to our efforts to rebuild the American Dream, strengthen our small businesses, and put people back to work. The success of the Hispanic community -- America's fastest growing community -- will directly impact the success of our nation as a whole. The Hispanic community's hope for a more prosperous future reflects the aspirations of all Americans.

"This month, as we recognize the tremendous impact the Hispanic community has had in shaping the greatness of our nation, let us continue our efforts to build a stronger America that honors our diversity and reflects the shared dream for a better tomorrow."
