Womack Reacts to President's Latest Debt Speech

Statement

Date: Sept. 19, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Womack released the following statement regarding the president's latest speech on the country's debt:

"While I can appreciate the president being engaged on this issue, I don't agree with his proposals to raise taxes on the very people we're counting on to create jobs. The government got itself into this financial mess, and we shouldn't expect the American people to pay for it. What's more, the government has no business picking winners and losers or punishing the success of others for that matter.

"Throwing money at a problem every time one arises is not good policy, it's not a sustainable policy, and it's a policy which has never worked. Our country needs long-term solutions or we will continue to see these problems over and over again."
