Hatch Statement on President's $1.5 Trillion Tax Hike

Statement

Date: Sept. 19, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement on the President's proposal to raise taxes by $1.5 trillion:

"The President doesn't get it. Last week, he gave America another stimulus that his own party won't support. Now, he's rolling out massive tax hikes that his own party has already rejected. Crass class warfare, a refusal to reform our broken entitlements, and tax hikes on job creators isn't a solution to Washington's spending problem and won't help our ailing economy or the 14 million Americans who are out of work. Tax increases thinly veiled as tax reform isn't reform. The President's political rhetoric hurts our ability to effectively streamline our burdensome tax code that has put America at a competitive disadvantage around the world. It's time for a new approach that puts the American people back in charge built on a simpler, fairer tax code, reformed entitlements, and reduced federal spending."
