Governor Announces Western Wind and Transmission Leadership Summit

Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2011
Location: Helena, MT

Montana's world class wind resource has attracted some of the most successful industry and governmental leaders to the Western Wind and Transmission Leadership Summit in Big Sky, MT on Sept. 25th through 28th.

"Montana has world-class wind, with one of the highest growth rates in the nation. Our state has gone from just under 1MW produced in 2005 to over 386 MW today. In order to reach our wind and renewable energy potential and create more high quality jobs, we must enhance our ability to get that clean, green energy to market," said Governor Brian Schweitzer.

From enacting the renewable energy standard in 2005, which jump started wind energy development around the state, to the clean and green energy tax incentives, Montana's leadership in wind development and transmission has already piqued the interest of industry and government leaders, who will be attending the summit, from around the nation and world.

The conference will provide an in-depth look at the wind and transmission industries. It will focus on how the Western United States can lead the nation and the world in building an integrated system that produces and delivers clean, green renewable energy to market.

"Updating regional and national transmission systems is a prerequisite to many renewable projects and to achieving American energy independence," said Schweitzer. "This conference is a great opportunity to discuss ideas and find solutions."
