Whitehouse in Pakistan to Press U.S. Security Concerns

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is in Pakistan where he is part of a congressional delegation trip to meet with top Pakistani and U.S. officials to address U.S. security concerns, and to urge stronger action against Taliban refuges in Pakistan supporting attacks on our troops in Afghanistan.

"I'm always grateful for the opportunity to hear from our military and intelligence leaders on the ground and thank them for their service," said Whitehouse.

While in Pakistan, Whitehouse will be briefed on a range of security concerns that are central to U.S. interests and to stability in the region, including ways to protect our troops by preventing roadside bomb materials from entering Afghanistan.

This is Senator Whitehouse's fourth trip to Pakistan.

Senator Whitehouse is joined on the trip by Senators Robert Casey (D-PA), Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

In 2010, 268 U.S. service members were killed by IEDs in Afghanistan. 125 U.S. service members have been killed by IEDs since the beginning of 2011.
