Today Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL) made the following remarks in support of the Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors' decision to authorize completion of one reactor at the Bellefonte site.

Congressman Brooks said, "The decision by the Tennessee Valley Board of Directors to complete construction on the Bellefonte nuclear reactor in Jackson County is an excellent choice that will benefit North Alabama in the immediate future and for years to come. Thousands of jobs are expected to be created in the construction of the reactor, and the completion of Bellefonte will mean safe, reliable, and affordable energy for Tennessee Valley communities for decades. We know from recent experience what it is like to be without electricity, and this plant will help assure we have the electricity needed to power our future."

Brooks continued, "I want to thank the TVA Board of Directors for moving forward with the decision, and express my gratitude to fellow Members of Congress who joined me in urging the TVA Board of Directors to approve construction. This is a great outcome that will benefit North Alabama residents."

Construction of the reactor is expected to create nearly 3,000 jobs in North Alabama. On completion, the reactor should be able to generate enough energy to power 700,000 homes, and will be the largest TVA reactor. It's anticipated completion date is between 2018 and 2020.
