Legislation Would Protect Religious Observation In The Workplace

WASHINGTON September 8

When our Founding Fathers wrote the First Amendment, they did so to protect the church from harassment by the government, not to remove faith from public life. The words of the Constitution are clear; the First Amendment protects freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Religious discrimination should not be tolerated anywhere, including the workplace.

The Workplace Religious Freedom Act has been introduced in the Senate and has bipartisan support. It would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect religious observation in the workplace. If a similar bill is introduced in the House of Representatives I will support it.
