Issue Position

With the national deficit currently over a trillion dollars and the national debt set to cripple the American economy, we must act now to strengthen the American energy industry and reduce our dependency on foreign oil in order to reduce our financial obligations to foreign states.

Energy independence is both a national and domestic security issue for the United States. Fossil fuels will continue to serve the majority of America's energy needs for the foreseeable future and to limit the available sources of energy is reckless and irresponsible. We must seek innovative solutions to our energy needs which includes investments in to renewable sources as wind, solar, biomass, and ethanol.

Even as we explore newer, cleaner energy sources, we must continue to utilize the rich resources within our own borders and on the Outer Continental Shelf, such as oil, coal, liquid, natural gas, and oil shale. One of the most promising outlets for new energy sources is nuclear energy, one of the cleanest forms of energy on the planet.

Energy independence is a major issue facing America today, and the only way to achieve this goal is through reducing dependence on foreign oil, tapping into America's abundant natural resources, incentivizing innovative technologies, and letting the market promote energy efficiency.
