Issue Position: Cutting Wasteful Spending

Issue Position

Step by step, we need to make the tough choices to reduce government spending. This Congress has taken action to reduce spending and assist with job creation, including: taking a five percent cut in our own Congressional budgets; repealing and replacing the health care bill; and voting to reduce government spending to 2008 levels. But, this is just the start and there is more work to be done to cut wasteful government spending throughout 112th Congress.

Because of the astronomical spending over the past years, our national debt now stands at around $14 trillion and counting. My daughter Sarah is almost two years old and when she was born, her share of the national debt was $35,000; today it is around $47,000. This is alarming, and Congress has an obligation to make the tough decisions to reduce federal spending and the size of government so we can provide our children with a better future.
