Cassidy Opposes Independent Payment Advisory Board

Statement

Date: July 13, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D., today in the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing, expressed his opposition to the Independent Payment Advisory Board, aka the Denial of Care Board. This panel, enclosed in President Obama's health care law, is tasked with making cuts to Medicare.

"The IPAB, or more accurately, the "Denial of Care Board,' is a threat to America's seniors. This board of 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats will be able to make decisions about what care seniors can receive by fiat. Worse, the decisions are appealable only by lawsuit, and maybe not even by that.

"Today's hearing highlighted the importance of repealing the "Denial of Care Board.' America has an obligation to seniors. I am working to make Medicare solvent without rationing, so current and future senior citizens get the care they deserve."
