DuPree Announces Two-Day Delta Tour

Press Release

Date: July 11, 2011
Location: Jackson, MS

With just three weeks until the Democratic Primary on August 2, Johnny DuPree is taking to the road for a series of state tours. He will begin with a two-day Delta tour on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"I've spent this entire campaign traveling to communities all across Mississippi, listening to their concerns and talking about how we can work together to improve Mississippi. We're going to continue to do the same thing right up until election day," said DuPree, the Democratic candidate for Governor. "In fact, our jobs and education forum series is what led us to develop Phase 1 of the Mississippi Education Restructuring Program, which includes $85 million in tax cuts for public school teachers and parents."

While on the tour, DuPree will speak to the Leflore County NAACP at their meeting on Tuesday evening.

DuPree has often talked during the campaign about making a commitment to the Delta as governor, something he said will be a key part of his administration.

"Every governor talks about working to create jobs, improve education and make health care more accessible in the Delta, but I've yet to see enough done," DuPree said. "As governor, I'll have someone on my staff at the "cabinet level', so to speak, whose only job will be working with leaders in the Delta to create jobs, improve education and make health care more accessible. That's the kind of attention it needs, and that's the kind of attention I think a governor should give it."

DuPree said the Delta holds a special place in his heart because of its rich history and the impact it has had on Mississippi.

"My mother is from the Delta. I've worked with supervisors and mayors and pastors from the Delta on many projects. And I've even campaigned for Congressman Thompson on several occasions. It's a great part of Mississippi, with hard-working people who love Mississippi and want to see us grow," DuPree said.
