Chabot Co-sponsors Bill to Ensure Military, Seniors Receive Checks

Statement

Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH) has co-sponsored the Prioritize Spending Act of 2011 (H.R. 2402). Introduced by Rep. Dan Webster (R-FL), H.R. 2402 would ensure that all tax revenues go towards paying our Military, Social Security and Medicare benefits, and our debt. It sends a clear message that our Military will be funded and that social security checks will go out -- clearing the air of the scare tactics being employed by some in Washington.

Congressman Chabot gave the following statement regarding the Prioritize Spending Act of 2011:

"The Prioritize Spending Act would provide immediate certainty and confidence to our creditors that the federal government will not default on its debt. It also would give assurances to our seniors and service men and women that the obligations the federal government owes them is of paramount importance and they will be met.

Earlier this week the House passed a plan that included significant spending cuts, placed enforceable spending caps, and required a balanced budget amendment. And since a plan has not been passed by the Senate, it is important that we eliminate the uncertainty of what might take place if no plan is implemented in the near future, so I urge my colleagues to support the Prioritize Spending Act."
