Woolsey Supports Commonsense NLRB Election Reforms

Statement

Date: June 24, 2011

Rep. Lynn Woolsey issued the following statement in response to the National Labor Relations Board revisions to the union election process:

"Working people in this country have a fundamental right to bargain collectively for wages and working conditions. But for years now, powerful business interests have gamed the system by throwing up frivolous, time-consuming and costly obstacles to workers' attempts at exercising their democratic rights. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has proposed a modest set of reforms aimed at modernizing the union election process and making it simpler, fairer and more efficient. These commonsense changes, long overdue, help affirm workers' rights to make their own decisions about their future.

"With corporate salaries rising and workers' wages declining, much remains to be done to bring the voices of average Americans back to the bargaining table. I am pleased to see the NLRB taking this first step."
