Rokita Votes Against Continuing American Involvement in Libya

Statement

Date: June 24, 2011

Today Rep. Todd Rokita (IN-4) voted against H.R. 2278, legislation which would have continued American involvement in Libya. Rokita released this statement.

"No evidence has been presented that military action in Libya is vital to our national security. Today's legislation would have permitted American forces to continue all of the operations they are currently carrying out in Libya short of dropping bombs--operations that our children and grandchildren will be forced to pay for since this war, like our other wars, has been charged to our nation's "credit card'.

American forces do not belong in Libya and I will continue to fight for legislation to end American involvement completely and immediately. Our country is facing a debt crisis that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs has called the greatest threat to our national security. The last thing we need right now is a war of choice that we cannot afford and the hundreds of millions, or billions, that will be borrowed to wage it."
