Roskam Statement on President's Decision to Tap Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Statement

Date: June 23, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Congressman Peter Roskam, Chief Deputy Whip, issued the following statement after the Administration announced it plans to release 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:

"It's increasingly clear that this Administration has no credible or responsible plan for our economy or lowering Americans' energy costs. Faced with that reality, the Administration is instead taking 30 million barrels of oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve, oil saved for our strategic national security. Given this clear admission by the Administration that more supply means lower gas prices, it's particularly disturbing that Washington Democrats continue to oppose credible plans to increase American oil production. Rather than weaken our economic and national security, I urge President Obama to reverse course and join Republicans in efforts to remove barriers to lower gas prices and more jobs."
