Rep. Hansen Clarke: Committee on Homeland Security hearing "The Threat of Muslim-American Radicalization in U.S. Prisons"

Statement

Date: June 15, 2011

Emotions ran high, as Democrats argued to make the hearing about examining radical groups in the prison system rather than singling out a religious group for scrutiny. Some of the most colorful language came from Rep. Hansen Clarke, a Democrat from Michigan. "You know what pisses me off? It's not about Islam. It's about the prison system," he said. ‎Rep. Clarke continued his remarks stating, "We are spending too much money incarcerating young men, young black men whose lives can be saved...It's about the prison culture. We've got to change it."
