Quigley Statement on Defense Reauthorization Vote

Statement

Date: May 27, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 1540, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012:

"This is another example of unrestrained military spending that doesn't necessarily keep us safer. While I am supportive of some areas of the bill such as a pay raise for service members, I have serious concerns with many provisions ranging from systems acquisitions to equality issues. Ultimately, I could not support this legislation"

H.R. 1540, which authorizes the 2012 budget authority for the Department of Defense, passed the House last night.

Quigley recently released "Reinventing Government: The Federal Budget -- 60 Recommendations to Reduce the Deficit by $2 Trillion over 10 years", which includes several ways to reform defense spending without compromising our security.
