Price Statement on Budget Vote in Senate

Statement

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the Senate voted to refuse to have a debate and vote on the House Republican Budget plan, the Path to Prosperity -- a plan that would pay down our debt while saving and preserving health and retirement programs for current and future seniors.

"Democrats in Washington have no plan of their own to address the nation's fiscal challenges. With over $14 trillion debt, they refuse to offer a solution to protect America's future from a looming debt crisis," said Chairman Price. "They have no plan to save Medicare for current or future retirees but were eager to enact ObamaCare that siphons $500 billion away from Medicare to a new entitlement program and empowers an unelected board of bureaucrats in Washington to ration care. Evidence from the Medicare Trustees, the Medicare Actuary, the Congressional Budget Office and others show that without reform, Medicare will go bankrupt in a few short years. Democrats want the American people to believe the prudent thing to do is to do nothing. Their reckless inaction ensures seniors are left with a broken Medicare system that will deny benefits and cease to exist."

"House Republicans believe today's seniors and tomorrow's retirees should have a Medicare program that provides access to affordable, quality health care and choices. The Path to Prosperity ensures that today's seniors will continue to have access to the exact same program in the future. The Democrat's approach would deny that assurance to current seniors. The House Republican budget ensures that future retirees have a program that is sustainable, affordable, and based on choices not government price controls and rationing. House Republicans have outlined a positive vision for the future. Our solutions bring down our debt and ensure that this generation and future generations can count on the programs they have paid into and were promised. We have taken the mantle of leadership seriously and will continue to fight for reforms that create a stronger, more prosperous America."
