U.S. Representative Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.) had the privilege of visiting veterans participating in Honor Flight today in Washington, D.C today. He said the following:

"It was an honor to be able to spend time with 85 World War II era veterans at the World War II Memorial today. I hold a deep place in my heart for the "greatest generation' and the sacrifices they made to protect our freedom from dictators in Europe and Asia. They've proven that freedom is not free. It takes courage and sacrifice.

"My grandfather was a Marine who fought in the Pacific and was on Guadalcanal. He passed away when I was very young, but I recall the stories of his combat in the Pacific. Those stories inspired me to join the Marine Corps. Today, when I looked into the eyes of that generation of men, I could not help but think of my grandfather and how truly blessed we are for the sacrifices endured by this generation.

"The organizers of Honor Flight also deserve praise. I thank them for taking the time out to give back to the veterans who have done so much to protect our freedom and liberty. I look forward to participating in future Honor Flight trips to our Nation's Capitol."

Congressman Palazzo, on break from the markup for the FY 2012 Defense Authorization Bill, handed out Congressional coins to the veterans and presented Honor Flight organizers with an official flag from the U.S. Capitol. After visiting with the veterans, Congressman Palazzo returned to the critical markup, which will set the nation's defense policy for next year.
