Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement regarding the death of Osama Bin Laden:

"I am proud of our intelligence community and our men and women in uniform who have put an end to Osama Bin Laden's reign of terror. I am especially proud that many of those involved in this operation are Navy SEALS based out of Hampton Roads. I also commend the President and his Administration for making this a top priority.

"It is my hope that this victory will provide some comfort to the families of those victims of his decades of terrorist acts all over the world, especially the victims of the embassy bombings of the late 1990s, the attack on the Norfolk-based USS Cole in 2000, and the 9/11 attacks in 2001. We also need to honor and remember the thousands of men and women who have given their lives over the last decade fighting terrorism and their families.

"The threat of terrorism against our nation and our allies obviously continues despite last night's victory but today we all should commend the heroic actions of these brave Americans."
