U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Votes No on Continued Republican Efforts to Dismantle Health Care Reform

U.S. Rep. Karen Bass voted today in opposition to H.R. 1213 which repeals grants to states to set up health insurance exchanges. The bill repeals the mandatory funding provided to states under the Affordable Care Act to establish exchanges.

"We have to put Americans back to work and reduce our deficit responsibly," said U.S. Rep. Karen Bass. "The jobs crisis in our country will not be resolved by endlessly debating heath care reform. Democrats are working hard for individuals who are hurting, while Republicans are fixated on an ideology that is harmful."

Already the Republican Majority has voted to repeal the entire Affordable Care Act and last month, voted to end Medicare as we know it. Many organizations including AARP, the American Hospital Association, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association and American Cancer Society oppose the bill.

"This bill seeks to further tear down the Affordable Care Act and is another Republican dead-ender that will go nowhere in the Senate. It is wrong to deny vital federal grant money to cash-starved states seeking to provide health insurance to its residents," added Bass.
