Scott Statement on Death of Osama bin Laden

Rep. Tim Scott (SC-01) issued the following statement on the death of Osama bin Laden:

"The American people have achieved a major victory in the War on Terrorism. Through the persistence, determination, and skill of our military forces and intelligence agencies, we have brought justice to the symbol of modern terrorism. My first thoughts are with the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and their families, who I hope will find some measure of comfort in knowing that the mastermind of that terrible day has been brought to justice.

We, as Americans, recognized early that our country was in a long-term war against terror; a war in which the United States would have to be patient, persistent, and relentless. The success of this operation is a testament to the resilience of our spirit.

While this is an important day in the War on Terror and it is a day that makes us all extra proud to be Americans, we must continue to be vigilant to the potential of ongoing terrorist threats."
