Representative Fudge Congratulates Shaker Heights Student Selected as U.S. Presidential Scholar

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to congratulate Nathaniel J. Henry, a student at Shaker Heights High School and resident of the 11th Congressional District, on his selection as a U.S. Presidential Scholar. The son of Scott and Julie Henry, Nat is one of only three Ohioans, and 141 students nationwide, selected for this prestigious honor. Created by Executive Order in 1964, the program recognizes outstanding students based on their College Board SAT or ACT scores, leadership activities and contributions to family, school and community.

More than 3,000 students applied for the award with at least two, one young man and one young woman, selected from each state by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the U.S. Department of Education.

Nat, an 18 year old senior, has demonstrated his academic excellence by attaining a 36 score on the ACT exam (36 is the highest possible score), and 2350 on the SAT exam (2400 is the maximum score). His volunteer activities are also a source of community pride. Nat serves as vice-president of his school's "Youth Ending Hunger" Club. Nat devotes 5 to 10 hours per week volunteering at soup kitchens, fundraising for local charities and donating his time at the Cleveland Food Bank.

"An exceptional young scholar, Nathaniel Henry has earned our nation's praise. I am also immensely proud that while pursuing his studies, Nat has pursued the noblest of human endeavors; helping people less fortunate in our community. Nat represents the finest of America's youth and I congratulate him on the well deserved recognition as a Presidential Scholar," said Congresswoman Fudge.
