Kildee Statement on Strong GM April Sales

Today, General Motors announced that its U.S. April sales rose 26.4 percent from one year ago, with Buick sales rising 51.2 percent. Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus said the spike in sales shows that GM is well on its way back to profitability and productivity.

"In the last few years, we have gone from a feeling of uncertainty and apprehension about the future of the domestic auto industry, to celebrating a nearly a 26.4 percent increase in sales from a year ago. The increased business is already being felt at Flint Truck, where GM will be adding a third shift and about 750 jobs to handle all the business. And as GM continues to strengthen its operations and sales, it is increasing its production and expanding its workforce across our nation. I am proud of my support of government assistance to our automakers, without which we likely would not have been celebrating all this good news. GMs strong April sales figures are further proof that these loans were a smart investment and that GM is well-positioned to once again be the economic engine that drives the U.S. economy," said Congressman Kildee.
