Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, released the following statement today after the U.S. House passed the historic "Path to Prosperity" budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2012.

"With today being "Tax Day,' I'm pleased that House Republicans have passed a pro-taxpayer budget that will cut taxes by $2 trillion and reduce government spending by $6 trillion over the next 10 years while putting us on track to balance the budget and pay off the national debt.

"At a time when the federal government is borrowing $5 billion every day on top of a $14 trillion national debt, we need to get our debt under control, and we need to do it urgently. Otherwise, we will have a Greek-style debt crisis in the next few years. The best way to avoid this crisis is to cut spending. Washington doesn't have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem. And this budget gets to the root of that problem while keeping our promises to America's most vulnerable, including our seniors. Furthermore, it will give our economy a boost by giving small business owners the confidence they need to grow and create jobs again."

This week, President Obama released his "do-over budget" which includes over $1 trillion in tax increases over the next 10 years.

"At a time when the economy is so vulnerable, I couldn't think of a worse thing we could do than raise taxes on job creators," said Rep. McMorris Rodgers.
