Congresswoman Buerkle Statement on the President's Deficit Reduction Proposal

Statement

President Obama's budget message demonstrates a failure of leadership. His refusal to make cuts to the Federal budget will have long-term repercussions and will gift our children and grandchildren with an economy in ruins and a Nation on the brink of collapse.

The President's proposal to balance the budget by trimming the waste and fraud in government, an estimated $150 billion, is a bit like cleaning the Capitol with a toothbrush; nice, but negligible.

Even if we succeeded in eliminating all the waste it would not touch the magnitude of our debt.

We cannot continue to put off the tough issues for the next generation.
