Hayworth Supports Measure to Prevent Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: April 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Nan Hayworth, M.D. (R-NY) issued the following statement today after the House passed the Government Shutdown Prevention Act which would enact H.R. 1, if Congress and the President can't come to agreement on a long term Continuing Resolution (CR) before the current deadline. Additionally, if a long term CR is not enacted, Members of Congress, and the President will not be paid:

"Senate Majority Leader Reid has not shown the responsible leadership American people expect from their leaders. The measure we passed today is a concrete action toward ensuring that a government shutdown does not occur should the Senate be unwilling to reach an agreement by the current deadline. House Republicans are dedicated to solving the problem of our nation's deficit and debt crisis, and to putting Americans back to work. If the Senate cannot join us in carrying out that responsibility, none of us, including the President, will get paid."
