Quigley Hosts Family Planning Briefing

Press Release

Date: March 9, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) hosted a briefing for Capitol Hill staff about the importance of Title X family planning programs with the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The briefing highlighted family planning's role in the lives of women, as well as how Title X saves the federal government money and reduces abortions.

"No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, everyone should support family planning," said Quigley. "It's vital to women's health, saves money, and reduces abortions."

For every dollar spent on family planning, almost four are saved in Medicaid expenses. Additionally, Title X prevents nearly 1 million unwanted pregnancies every year, half of which would have ended in abortion. The funds provided through Title X go to health care providers that supply vital life-saving and preventive care including cancer screenings, STI tests, and HIV tests.
