Congressman Patrick Meehan at ConocoPhillips: Burdensome Regulations Putting Thousands of Jobs at Risk

Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07) today met with employees and toured the ConocoPhillips refinery located in Marcus Hook. Congressman Meehan expressed concerns about whether burdensome regulations enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adversely impact the refinery and its' ability to compete in the global marketplace.

"Thousands of jobs are at risk at ConocoPhillips if onerous regulations targeting the refining industry are selectively enforced," said Congressman Meehan. "Today I had the opportunity to tour the refinery and visit with employees to hear firsthand how new EPA regulations are impacting their ability to do their jobs. Greenhouse gas mandates may be ineffective if the result is to send jobs overseas because foreign refineries don't abide by the same regulations."

"Using my position as a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, I intend to examine issues such as these to make sure that the government is not standing in the way of U.S. companies doing business and creating jobs," said Congressman Meehan.

Today's visit to ConocoPhillips was prompted by a recent hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee entitled "Regulatory Impediments to Job Creation," in which Congressman Meehan called for a review of EPA regulations that may be hindering economic growth.
