Sullivan Hits on EPA's Destructive Economic Regulations

Today, Energy and Power Subcommittee Vice Chairman John Sullivan issued the following remarks after the panel heard testimony on Republican legislation to strip the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) authority to regulate green house gas (GHG) emissions under the Clean Air Act. During the hearing, Sullivan questioned EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson about the harmful economic effects the EPA's GHG rules will have on Oklahoma.

"Today's hearing was about the EPA's continuous efforts to impose a backdoor national energy tax on American families and businesses - and the disastrous impact it would have on our economy. The Energy Tax Prevention Act protects American jobs from being eliminated or shipped overseas, by taking away the EPA's to implement a back door cap and tax scheme."

"As I told Administrator Jackson this morning, Oklahomans are scared to death, about what about what a national energy tax would mean for them -- in reality a tax on energy is a tax on almost everything we buy - from heating and cooling our homes, to the price we pay for groceries at the store. It is unfortunate, the EPA and the Obama Administration are willing to sacrifice economic growth and jobs for something that will do very little to protect our environment."
