Rep. McKinley Appointed to Top Subcommittees on Energy & Commerce Committee

Press Release

Date: Jan. 24, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) was honored by appointments to the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Energy and Power and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade. The Subcommittee on Energy and Power will be chaired by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY) and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade will be chaired by Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-CA).

"I am honored to be named by Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI)to serve on these two subcommittees," said McKinley. "As I learned while serving in the state legislature, subcommittees are incredibly important to the legislative process; they are where good bills are created and bad bills are stopped before they can even see the light of day. I made a promise to the people of West Virginia that I would be their voice in Washington and I believe these two subcommittees are a great opportunity to make their voices heard on issues that directly impact their quality of life and local economy.

"On the Energy and Power Subcommittee, I will help lead the charge to stop the administration's War on Coal, especially through overregulation by the EPA, which is killing jobs in West Virginia. Coal is West Virginia and West Virginia is coal. I will not sit idly by and watch our jobs disappear because of politics as usual. I will work with my fellow members of the Energy and Power Subcommittee as well as other members of Congress to delay the EPA's power grab. We need to protect our jobs and secure our energy future."

Recently, Rep. McKinley signed on as an original co-sponsor on a piece of legislation by Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) called the "Protect America's Energy and Manufacturing Jobs Act." The legislation will ensure the EPA's reckless greenhouse gas regulations will be delayed so that the courts, Congress and possibly another president have time to completely stop them.

Rep. McKinley continues, "On the Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee, I look forward to developing a new industrial plan, so we can begin to make things here in America again. For too long, we've seen our jobs go overseas and our communities suffer as a result. This subcommittee assignment will put me in a prime position to help stop the hemorrhaging of West Virginia manufacturing jobs elsewhere and put our local economy back on solid footing."
