Issues: Transportation

"Investments in our transportation infrastructure create good-paying jobs, encourage the development of alternative, energy-efficient modes of travel, and ensure the safety of our roadways, railways and skies for all travelers. The federal government needs to lead the charge in bringing our transportation network into the 21st century. And, I will continue working to improve the quality of our region's transportation system so all New Yorkers have a reliable way of getting to work and getting home to their families at night in time for dinner."

Crowley Working to Make LaGuardia Airport a Better Neighbor and Safer Airport:
* Committed to reducing noise in the community surrounding LaGuardia Airport, and commissioned a noise study of the nearby community.
* As part of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2008, included a provision requesting that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey conduct a noise mitigation study examining the effects of noise pollution on the residents near LaGuardia Airport, which could lead to sound-proofing homes, schools and houses of prayer.
* Supports a reduction in the number of planes per hour that fly into LaGuardia Airport, reducing overcrowding and the resulting delays, noise, and pollution.
* Supports increasing the number of Air Traffic Controllers stationed at LaGuardia Airport to increase the safety of passengers and reduce the number of near-miss collisions on the runway.

Crowley on Improving Mass Transit:

* Supports expediting the completion of the rail link from JFK Airport to Manhattan and Long Island to provide a quicker more efficient alternative method of reaching the airports from Manhattan and Long Island.
* Supports the development of new subway stops in Parkchester, Co-op City and Hunts Point.
* Fought for the reopening of Elmhurst and Corona stops on the Long Island Railroad to give more Queens residents quick access to Manhattan.
* Working to provide more MTA express buses to link the citizens of the Bronx and Queens with Manhattan.
* Supports increased investment in Amtrak, as well as the revitalization of Pennsylvania Station, to allow more travel options for New York City residents.

Crowley Making Roadways Safe for All:

* Secured federal funds to construct an environmental shield along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to keep the surrounding communities guarded from the debris and noise from traffic.
* Working to install more street signs at busy intersections in Queens and the Bronx to make streets safer for residents.
* Fighting to reduce pollutants in the Bronx by supporting a reduction of heavy truck traffic traveling through the area -- a leading cause of high asthma rates and poor air quality in the Bronx.
