Weiner On Netanyahu Calling For Pollard Release: "It's Time to End This Injustice Once and For All"

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Today, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the Israeli Knesset and letter to President Obama calling for Jonathan Pollard's release, Representative Anthony Weiner (D -- Queens and Brooklyn), a long-time advocate for the commutation of Jonathan Pollard's life sentence, issued the following statement:

"Prime Minister Netanyahu's address on Tuesday was a sobering moment between two allies. In a world full of back room negotiations and secret deals, the Prime Minister faced the world and apologized to its closest ally, the United States, for its role in the Jonathan Pollard affair. "

"I commend the Prime Minister for not only setting the example of an honest diplomatic exchange, but for doing it while standing up for a man whom we all know has been confined to a sentence that far exceeds the appropriate term for the crime he has committed."

"I urge President Obama to listen to Congress, individual American and Israeli citizens and the Israeli government, and commute Mr. Pollard's unfair sentence. After 25 years, it's time to end this injustice once and for all."
