Terry: Chairman Tauzin Brought Energy and Commerce Committee to New Heights

WASHINGTON - Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) today issued the following statement on Rep. W.J. (Billy) Tauzin's (R-LA) announcement Tuesday night that he will resign as chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and will not run for re-election. Tauzin has stated he supports Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) as his successor.

"He brought our Committee back to the point that it's now called the 'powerful' Energy and Commerce Committee. He'll be missed. Billy's a good friend and whatever he chooses to do after his time on Capitol Hill is up, I'm sure he'll be a success.
"Now it's important that the Committee Republicans line up behind Joe so this leadership transition is seamless, effortless, and focused on our agenda of serving the American people," Terry said.

Tauzin will resign as chairman effective February 16.
