Akin Amendment to House Rules Accepted

Statement

Last night, the House Republican Conference accepted an amendment to the House Rules offered by Congressman Todd Akin (R-Mo.).

Akin's amendment adds another item to the "to do' list for House committees as they put together their oversight plan. Each committees oversight plan must now "include proposals to cut or eliminate programs, including mandatory spending programs, that are inefficient, duplicative, outdated, or more appropriately administered by State or local governments.''

Akin released the following statement:

"In Washington, nothing moves unless it is pushed. Last year, voters sent a very clear message about which direction they want us to push. My amendment requires each committee to include proposals to cut or eliminate programs in their semi-annual oversight plan."

"This step will ensure that eliminating wasteful spending is a priority for every committee in the 112th Congress."

The House Rules Package is expected to pass today.

Akin is a new member of the House Budget Committee.
