Federal Court Calls Individual Mandate "Unconstitutional"

Congressman Todd Akin (R-Mo.), today responded to U.S. District Court Judge Henry Hudson's ruling that the individual mandate portion of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.
Akin released the following statement:
"I am very encouraged by today's ruling. Judge Hudson has found what I and many members of Congress who opposed this legislation have long believed; that the Pelosi, Reid Congress exceeded its constitutional authority by requiring that every individual American purchase health insurance or pay a penalty.
"I will continue to monitor this case as it is appealed to the Supreme Court level and as I work for full repeal of this ill-advised legislation."
