Reps. Maloney, Nadler & King on Senate Changes to 9/11 Health Bill

Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler & Peter King, the authors of H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, released the following joint statement on changes to the bill brokered today by Senators Gillibrand and Schumer to help secure Republican support in the Senate:

"This is a big step forward for the Zadroga Act and with the clock ticking down on this session of Congress, it could not be any more timely. What 9/11 rescuers and survivors really want for the holidays is to pass the Zadroga Act -- and we're on the doorstep of doing just that. Senators Gillibrand and Schumer have made a tremendous effort to build Republican support for the bill in the Senate.

"The growing Republican support for the 9/11 health bill, including from Mayor Giuliani and Governor Huckabee, is a sign of good tidings to come.

"Thousands are sick from 9/11 and many are dying. The next few days may be our last opportunity to get 9/11 responders and survivors the care they need and deserve. We urge the Senate Republican leadership to support an up-or-down vote on this patriotic and long-overdue bill."
