Mack: Victory for Democracy in Kosovo

Statement

Date: Dec. 14, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

With the results now certified in the first free national elections in Kosovo since declaring their independence from Serbia in 2008, Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement.

Mack said:

"The competition of the electoral process and the peaceful transition of power over these past few days in Kosovo is a huge step in reuniting Kosovo into the European and Western community of nations, and a major step forward for freedom and democracy in that region.

"I want to congratulate Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, who relinquished his post according to the Constitution when the Parliament was dissolved, but is now charged with forming a new government for Kosovo as his party (PDK) was the clear victor in Sunday's elections. Prime Minister Thaci has shown great leadership in bringing democracy to Kosovo."
