One of the very first pieces of legislation I supported in the 111th Congress was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This bill, which was signed into law in January, helps revise a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tires that restricted the rights of people who have suffered pay discrimination. This law now permits women and men who have been discriminated against to enforce their rights by providing that each paycheck or other discriminator act of compensation extends the time for employees to redress these wrongs.

I strongly feel the need to further address injustices women face every day. As a father and husband, I think it's shameful that by 2009 we haven't been able to close the gender wage gap. No female should receive a lower salary than her male counterpart simply because of her gender.
