Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today announced he has co-sponsored legislation to extend emergency unemployment insurance benefits.

The legislation, introduced by Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., would fully fund a 13-month extension of unemployment insurance benefits using unspent discretionary federal funding.

"In this time of economic hardship, many Americans are relying on unemployment benefits as their only source of income," said Chambliss. "I hope our colleagues join us in supporting this fully funded extension. We have the opportunity to demonstrate to the public that we can extend these benefits without borrowing from future generations and raising taxes. And while this is not a permanent solution, it is the best short-term option to help those in need."
