Senator Garagiola has consistently advocated for transportation funding reform, smart growth, and mass transit expansion. Since his election to office he has successfully supported efforts and sponsored legislation that:
* Seek to ensure state funding for the Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT), a transit link north from Shady Grove Metro through Germantown to Clarksburg, and the Bi-County Transitway (or Purple Line).
* Provide funding for the purchase of 120 additional Metrorail cars and kept the MARC train stations in Montgomery County open.
* Established a Blue Ribbon Commission on Maryland Transportation Funding that will make recommendations for sustainable, long term revenue sources and options for funding our transportation needs.
* Established smart and fair growth criteria for funding transportation projects, to ensure that Maryland's transportation and land use decisions work together.
