Andrew Gray Denounces Bureaucracy of Office of the Repealer

Press Release

Date: Oct. 11, 2010

Andrew Gray, Libertarian Candidate for Kansas Governor, says that simplifying or repealing unnecessary statutes and regulations is a key part of his administration's plan to empower the private sector to create jobs and prosperity in Kansas. He also says he's pleased that Senator Brownback is at least talking about similar actions. However, Gray finds it ridiculous that Senator Brownback is actually planning to create more bureaucracy in order to cut bureaucracy.

"An Office of The Repealer, really?" asked Gray with a pained smile. "My team will simplify bureaucracy, but we'll not hire more government employees to tell us what needs to be repealed. The citizens of Kansas are experts in what statutes and regulations need to be simplified or repealed. Instead of asking Kansas taxpayers to pay additional salaries for an office full of government employees, we'll let those citizens keep their money and ask them to tell us what the Governor's office needs to make happen to remove specific barriers to their success."

Gray and his team say that within the first sixty days of their administration they will create a simple website where every Kansan can submit specific statutes or regulations that are standing in the way of their success. Gray says he'll put his Lt. Governor, Mr. Stacey Davis, in charge of that citizen driven data. After twenty years of self-employment Davis understands the challenges facing small business in Kansas. Gray says that his Lt. Governor will review the ideas, and follow up with citizens and regulatory agencies when necessary to assure understanding and continued public safety. Each quarter he will then prepare a prioritized list of statutes and regulations that need the attention of the Governor's Office. The list will be made public at the same time it is sent to the legislators and various regulatory agencies. Gray says "We'll make the process citizen driven, transparent to citizens, and ongoing. We'll start changing the culture of Kansas Government so that everyone understands that the state government is there only to serve specific needs of the citizens of Kansas that are simply too broad to be addressed on a more local level."
