Miller: It is Time to Provide Certainty to Job Creators as the Economy Continues to Shed Jobs

Statement

U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement after the Labor Department reported that the economy lost 95,000 jobs in September:

"The September jobs report is another sobering reminder of how difficult it is for unemployed workers to find the jobs they need and the uncertainty that is keeping job creators from investing in their businesses. It should also serve as a wake-up call for Congress that it is long past time to remove uncertainty in this economy and extend the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 which are set to expire on December 31st. If this is allowed to happen it would be the largest tax increase in American history.

"I voted against the adjournment resolution late last month because Congress has not finished its work. It is simply inconceivable that Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats would leave town to campaign to save their jobs while businesses and families have no idea what their tax liability will be next year and so many Americans continue to struggle to find work.

"I call on Speaker Pelosi to bring Congress back to Washington immediately so we can vote on the extension of current tax rates to provide job creators with the certainty they need to invest in new jobs and jump start this economy."
