Issue Position: Creating Jobs

Issue Position

The bottom line is that jobs are created in the private sector. Government doesn't create jobs. Meaningful, sustainable, long-term job creation only happens when we grow our small businesses. In Delaware, our problem is that way too much money is in government and not in the job creating side of the equation. We spend the most per person of any state government in the lower 48 states - $31,000 per household. If we could just trim that by 5%, we could free up $400 million dollars to put back in the private sector, and we could turn this economy around in a heartbeat. Get that money out of the bureaucrats' hands and into the job creators hands. The treasurer can do that by creating a culture of accountability that puts the downward pressure on spending and holding accountable those who would waste the taxpayers' hard-earned money. My early retirement plan would have saved the state $75 million per year, which would have been dedicated to economic development and private-sector job creation. I'm proud to have led the fight in the Senate for solutions on job creation during this tough economy, and I'm ready to the next level as Treasurer. We can do better. We must do better. And I need your help to show Delaware there's a better way. Please click to donate some of your time or treasure to our campaign by clicking on one of the buttons at the top of the page.
